How To: Link Existing Data Items in Schema App's Highlighter

Modified on Thu, 16 Oct at 11:11 PM

Linked Data Items allow users to connect entities created in the Editor to their pages at scale. It is a key factor in connecting your Organization to the content you publish and the products you offer. Linked Data Items can also be used to tag templates with relevant information like whether the page is an Entity Home.

Users can link existing data items created manually using the Schema App Editor. These data items will appear on every page a template is deployed to. It is possible to set a condition that a data item only be linked when a specific criteria is met. Currently, this is an action your CSM must perform.

  1. Select "Link Existing Data Item"
  2. Select any additional Types or properties
  3. Search for your data item by name and select it
Note: If you have multiple data items with the same names, use the View Location or "Edit in Editor" selections to confirm you've selected the correct data item.

Conditional Linked Data Items

The Highlighter can be configured to only include data item when a specific on-page condition is met. This is an advanced setting and isn't currently available in the HX user interface.

Entity Home Identifier

Another application of linking involves attaching tags that identify a URL as being an Internal Entity Home..

Troubleshooting

If you update the URI of a data item in the Editor, the data item should still be attached and referenced by the Highlighter template.

If a linked data item has been deleted or its URI is changed, the old markup will persist in the cache until this highlight is removed and cache is cleared.
