Release Notes - September 2025

Modified on Tue, 26 May at 12:53 PM

September was a month of milestones and expanded capabilities at Schema App. Highlighter V1 has been officially retired, Google Knowledge Graph search is now available directly within the Editor and Entity Manager, and Deployment Monitoring has been upgraded with clearer, more actionable diagnostics. Alongside these headline changes, we shipped a range of improvements to entity linking, Shopify markup, and the Highlighter Extension workflow.

Highlighter V1 Officially Retired

The original Highlighter (V1) has been officially retired. The "Edit Template" option has been removed from the Highlighter Overview page, and all template management now runs through the current Highlighter Extension. To make the transition seamless, the Highlighter Overview page now includes two new controls: an "Edit in Highlighter Extension" button that opens an existing template directly in HX, and a "New Template" button for creating templates without leaving Schema App.

Google Knowledge Graph Search in Editor and Entity Manager

Users can now search Google's Knowledge Graph (GKG) directly from within the Schema App Editor and the Entity Manager. When working with entities, the GKG lookup allows you to find and link authoritative external entities without leaving the application. This makes it faster to connect your data to well-known entities and improves the precision of your markup.

Improved Deployment Monitoring Diagnostics

The "Issues Detected" column in Monitoring Reports now displays the primary reason for a deployment failure rather than a generic error. New error codes have been introduced for internal system errors and for JavaScript deployment issues (such as when Highlight.js is not present on the page). These improvements give CSMs and users clearer, more actionable information when investigating why markup is not appearing as expected.

Other Improvements at Schema App

  • IEL synonym support via schema:alternateName: The schema:alternateName property can now be used on internal entities to define alternate names and synonyms. This improves Internal Entity Linking coverage for entities that are referred to differently across pages. Documentation update required for IEL implementation.
  • Shopify sub-collections and custom mapping improvements: Shopify clients can now include sub-categories in PLP and Category page markup. Custom property mapping has also been overhauled to correctly populate fields such as the mpn metafield across all Shopify Product resources. Updated documentation is available on the support portal.
  • Admin Editor: Auto-unlink deleted data items: When a data item is deleted in the Admin Editor, its URI is now automatically removed from all objects listed in the "Data Item Used By" section. Previously this required a second manual step.
  • Auto-optimized entities (EPA): When no entities have been manually set as optimized for an account, the system now automatically marks the top entities by URL count as system-optimized, up to 80% of the account's optimized entity capacity. This runs daily and requires no action from CSMs.
  • HX: Add additional fields of an existing type via the search box: In the Highlighter Extension, users can now add an additional field via the search box even when a highlight of the same type already exists on the template. Previously the search box would not allow this.
  • Language-aware Entity Linking: When a page specifies a language in its HTML, Internal and External Entity Linking now restricts entity matching to that language, improving accuracy for multilingual sites.

In Brief

September 2025 marked the retirement of Highlighter V1 and introduced Google Knowledge Graph search in both the Editor and Entity Manager. Deployment Monitoring now surfaces the primary reason for scan failures in the Issues Detected column. Additional improvements include IEL synonym support via schema:alternateName, Shopify sub-collection markup, automatic entity optimization for accounts without manual selections, and a more flexible field-addition workflow in the Highlighter Extension.

As always, reach out to your CSM if you have questions about any of these changes or would like help taking advantage of new features.
