Hosted NLWeb: Put Knowledge Assistant on Your Website

Modified on Fri, 25 Sep at 5:01 PM

Overview

Hosted NLWeb is Schema App's on-site conversational experience. It embeds Knowledge Assistant on your public (or staging) website so visitors can ask natural-language questions and receive grounded answers with citations from your Content Knowledge Graph.

Schema App hosts the backend. Your web team adds a short HTML snippet. There is no API key in the page: Schema App resolves your tenant from the embedding website's origin.

Naming:

  • Knowledge Assistant is the product experience (in Schema App or on your site).

  • NLWeb is the underlying technology.

  • Hosted NLWeb means Knowledge Assistant running on your website.

Hosted NLWeb is a governed answer layer for people (and, when enabled, agents). It is not a generic AI chatbot that invents answers from the open web.

Before You Embed

Complete in-app evaluation first. Confirm that your priority questions return accurate, cited answers in Schema App before you show the same experience to anonymous visitors.

  1. Evaluate in Schema App: https://app.schemaapp.com/knowledge-assistant

  2. Follow the Knowledge Assistant — Evaluation Release Guide

  3. Optional: watch the Product Walkthrough (Evaluation Release)

When core topics pass your review, work with your Customer Success Manager on placement, branding, domains, and go-live timing.

3. Test on staging

Run your must-answer prompts on a staging or preview URL before production. Confirm citations and empty/out-of-scope behaviour.

Use your validated evaluation prompts on the hosted page

4. Go live

Add the same embed to production. Soft-launch when possible, then monitor connect errors and answer quality.

What Visitors Experience

  • Natural-language questions answered from your structured content

  • Citations to source pages on your site

  • Optional deep links that pre-send a question via the s URL parameter

  • Conversation history stored in the visitor's browser (not as a shared server-side transcript in the standard embed)

Answer quality reflects your schema markup and Content Knowledge Graph. Thin or missing answers usually mean coverage gaps to fix in Schema App, not a problem to "prompt engineer" away.

What Hosted NLWeb Is Not

  • A replacement for every site-search product without scoping (especially CMS-native search swaps: plan with your CSM and Engineering)

  • A guarantee of Actions, bookings, or CRM workflows unless those are configured for your tenant

  • A way to fix incomplete markup by embedding sooner

How It Differs from a Typical AI Chatbot

Typical AI chatbot / RAG search

Hosted NLWeb

Often starts from crawled pages or a generic index

Starts from your governed Content Knowledge Graph

May answer from general model knowledge

Answers are grounded in your structured data, with citations

Optimizes a chat or search box

Publishes brand knowledge as a reusable answer layer

Prefer describing Hosted NLWeb as a governed answer layer. It is not just a chatbot.
