How to markup your homepage

Modified on Wed, 11 Mar, 2020 at 10:58 AM

To markup your homepage, we recommend creating a data item that best represents the type of business you are. The Organization type is a good place to start, but if you’re able to find a more specific subclass, --such as Local Business-- we recommend selecting that instead.

Step 1. Search for and select the type from the Schema.org type tree, and click “+Create”.

Step 2. In the pop-up box, provide a name for your data item (we usually recommend putting the name of the business), ensure that the URL is correct (we recommend copying and pasting it from your address bar), and ensure the correct Type is selected. Click “Create”

Step 3. Fill in the Required Fields and Recommended fields, and any Other Fields that are relevant to the information on your homepage.  Any properties with “Enter Text…” will accept text or URLs, Image Objects will accept the URL of the image. All other properties require you to create another data item.

Step 4. If creating another data item from within your Organization data item, click in the property field, then click “Add Data Item…”. Make sure that the URL has been appended with a #word to differentiate it from other data items connected to your homepage. Our Editor will automatically generate a # for you.

Step 5. Click “+Create” and proceed to fill out the Required, Recommended, and Other fields as you did for your Organization data item.
